چکیده

The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) is an atmospheric chemistry instrument on-board the second European Remote Sensing Satellite ERS-2 satellite which was launched in April 1995. The GOME is designed to measure a range of atmospheric trace constituents (O , NO , HCHO, BrO, OClO and SO ), with particular emphasis on global ozone distributions. The operational data processing with the GOME Data Processor (GDP) started in August 1996 after an intensive validation campaign. All GOME data since July 1995 have been reprocessed now with an improved version of the GDP and the global distributions of nitrogen dioxide and ozone are publicly available, the latter also from a nearreal-time service. This paper presents results about a number of trace species retrieved from GOME data and highlights some results obtained with the operational GDP system.

Comparison of Operational Cloud Properties Derived from Gome/ers-2 and Msg/seviri Data

We focus on the retrieval of cloud properties appropriate for trace gas retrieval from sun-normalized UV/VIS backscatter spectra obtained from the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) on-board ERS-2. A data fusion technique is applied to calculate the fractional cloud cover of GOME footprints from GOME’s Polarization Measurement Devices (PMDs). Furthermore, cloudtop albedo and cloud-top he...

A fast method for retrieval of cloud parameters using oxygen A band measurements from the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment

The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) on board the ERS-2 isdesigned to measure trace gas column densities in the Earth's atmosphere. Such retrievals are hindered by the presence of clouds. The most important cloud parameters that are needed to correct trace gas column density retrievals for the disturbing effects of clouds are the (effective) cloud fraction and cloud top pressure. At pr...

Development of a Bromine Oxide Product from Gome

Bromine monoxide (BrO) is an atmospheric constituent playing an important role in the chemistry of both the stratosphere and the troposphere. Recent studies have demonstrated that BrO total columns can be retrieved on a global scale by analysis of backscattered solar spectra measured by the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME), aboard the ERS-2 satellite since April 1995. The data analysis...

UPAS / GDOAS 4.0 Upgrade of the GOME Data Processor for Improved Total Ozone Columns

The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) on board ERS-2 (launched in April 1995) is the successful predecessor of a series of new generation sensors (SCIAMACHY, OMI, GOME-2) aiming at the needed global measurement of key ozone-related species to assess current and future changes of the atmosphere [1-3]. Providing the global picture of atmospheric ozone (O 3), GOME is also the first orbitin...

A Neural Network Algorithm for the Retrieval of Temperature Profiles from Gome Radiance Measurements

The thermal structure of the atmosphere has a relevant influence on the circulation mechanisms of air masses and on the distribution of trace gases. In this paper, a neural network algorithm aiming at the real-time retrieval of temperature profiles from the radiance measurements provided by the instrument GOME boarded on the ESA satellite ERS-2 will be illustrated, and the obtained results will...
